The Oceanfront hotel , your home away from home
The Oceanfront Hotel (formerly Malcolm Island Inn) is conveniently located on the waterfront in the heart of historic Sointula. Take a 35 minute ferry ride from Port McNeill and then kick back and enjoy the slow pace of Malcolm Island. You can leave your car on the other side and walk from the ferry or kayak to our door. Most of our rooms have recently been renovated and all have a stunning view across the Broughton Strait to Vancouver Island. Relax on your deck and enjoy the surrounding majesty of Northern Vancouver Island. The sunsets are incredible. We have no mosquitoes so leave your patio door open at night and go to sleep with the sound of waves lapping outside your window. How to get here- it's easier than you think!
Leaving from Nanaimo you'll be here in 4.5 hours. The paved highway north is a beautiful drive all the way. Head for Port McNeill and catch the 4:05 or 6:40 ferry if you can. The last ferry is 9:30 pm. Once you get to Campbell River it's about 2.5 hours drive so you know if you have time to stop for lunch or need to eat take out.
You can use your BC Ferry Experience card to save some money on the ferry. Or, you can park your car in Port McNeill and walk on. We are only 1 block on the left from the ferry dock. There are free bicycle rentals at the bakery next door for your convenience.
You can also take the bus up. It arrives in Port McNeill from Campbell River about 4:30. That gives you some time to explore Port McNeill and then catch the 6:40 ferry to Malcolm Island.
If you are coming from Port Hardy and don't have a car, ask at the visitors centre. They will tell you which bus to catch to get to Port McNeill in time for the ferry. There are a few buses running from Port McNeill and Port Hardy every day.
No matter how you get here you will be glad you did. Then you'll know how easy it is to come back the next time!
